| The Treasure Fleet (Age of Expansion)
Game Time line: 1423 - 1819 Country to Play: Korea, Nippon, Manchu, Ayatthaya, China, Daiviet |
| The beginning of a Dynasty is always glorious and prosperous. Expansion on land and exploration on sea are necessary in order to ensure the dominance of power in a region and expand the national territories. Famous Chinese explorer Zheng He set out seven grand voyages with fleet that was far larger in size and crew strength than those of the Europeans. Each of his seven flotillas had more than 200 vessels; a crew of 27,000 and the largest ships were at least 1,500 tons each. Columbus' first expedition had only three ships; an 87 crew and the largest ship weighed 100 tons. Yet, the expansion of the Ming Empire only lasted for a short period of time. A misleading sense of superiority withheld the Chinese from its expansion into the "barbaric" lands of Southeast and South Asia. If the Ming Emperors changed its strategy to colonize these countries during this era, the history followed would certainly change. China would be stronger, more cosmopolitan and better equipped to combat the brutal assaults of the Western powers and Japan in the 19th and 20th centuries and Southeast and South Asian countries might evade the fate of Western colonization and imperialistic attacks. |
